Kamah’s Story

Kamah’s* story is one of resilience and determination.

Kamah’s father passed away when she was young, and her mother focused all her energy on supporting her son, leaving Kamah neglected.

Despite being just a child, Kamah was burdened with household chores and caring for herself. After completing 5th grade, her mother insisted she stop her education to begin working in the fields, alongside her, for less than $2/day. Kamah was devastated; yet, she did not lose hope. Despite having no support at home, she dreamed of more for her life, aspiring to become a nurse.

Her life changed when she became connected with Invisible Girl Project. Our grassroots team recognized the discrimination she faced just because she was a girl. We provided her with a safe home to stay in, meeting her needs, ensuring she could attend school,  and giving her comfort. Free from household duties, she thrived academically, earning high marks in her 10th-grade exams. Now, as an 11th-grade science student, she is on her way to achieving her dream of becoming a nurse.

Though her family remains distant, Kamah’s spirit is unbroken. With the support of IGP’s Child Sponsorship Program, she has found hope, stability, and the chance to build a better future. Her story highlights the transformative power of education and the impact of how support can turn hardship into opportunity.

Kamah’s story is one of IGP’s many stories of empowerment and hope. Every day, girls in India face struggles much like hers. IGP is dedicated to reaching these precious girls and giving them opportunities for a bright future. We are the sole international humanitarian organization working with grassroots organizations in India to prevent female gendercide and trafficking and to protect and save girls’ lives.
