At just six years old, Megha* faced a bleak future. Born into a poor family where both parents work as daily wage laborers, she watched her older brother attend school while she was kept at home. Her father, who had longed for a son, felt disappointed by her birth. When her brother broke his arm and her father suffered from an accident, he cruelly blamed Megha, believing she had brought misfortune to the family. Convinced that education would only make things worse, he pulled her out of school and forced her to work instead. Megha endured neglect, harsh treatment, and the looming threat of child marriage.

When an IGP social worker heard about Megha’s situation, she visited the family’s home. The father refused to speak with the social worker and even attempted to beat Megha. The social worker stepped in by reaching out to a local community leader. Together, they persuaded the father to stop sending his daughter to work. He hesitated at first, but when he learned that IGP would cover Megha’s educational and personal needs, he finally agreed.

Thanks to support from IGP’s generous sponsors, Megha, now nine years old, regularly attends school, lives in a safe and nurturing environment, and receives the care every child deserves. She’s on a new path—one filled with opportunities to grow, thrive, and pursue her dreams with confidence.

Megha’s story is one of IGP’s many stories of empowerment and hope. Every day, girls in India face struggles much like hers. IGP is dedicated to reaching these precious girls and giving them opportunities for a bright future. We are the sole international humanitarian organization working with grassroots organizations in India to prevent female gendercide and trafficking and to protect and save girls’ lives.
