Because of you, thousands of families in India received aid.

When the devastating second wave of coronavirus cases hit India in April 2021, it especially affected India’s most marginalized populations—including girls, who are systematically discriminated against, abused, and killed. We knew that we had to respond immediately before more girls were hurt by discrimination.

How you helped

India’s COVID-19 outbreak quickly turned into a food crisis as restrictions and lockdowns were implemented. The families we work with quickly lost their jobs and were descending into poverty. Girls we have been working with for years to heal from trauma were again trapped in lockdown with unsafe family members. That’s why we immediately started raising money to feed these families and make sure their daughters were safe.

In 2021, you donated the funds to purchase enough rice, lentils, vegetables, cooking oil, masks, and soap for thousands of girls and their families to eat for two months. Our partners and other community-based Indian organizations sourced the food and safely distributed it to 6,765 individuals. And we continued to rescue girls from danger, forced labor, and child marriage—things that have only become more prevalent during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Where aid went

100% of your donations went directly to meet the immediate needs of girls and families in India. The effects of this COVID-19 crisis are far-reaching, and we’re committed to walking with these families over decades.

100% of your donation will provide care and relief to girls and families weathering India’s COVID-19 crisis. If your gifts exceed what is needed in one area, surplus funds will be directed to other urgent needs for our partners and the girls for whom they care. Funding goals are based on average expenses in the area and estimated need. Our goal is to provide funding and resources where most needed. Read more about our financial commitment to our donors.
